Instructions for use

If a fire strikes, every second counts, especially if you have children or elderly relatives at home.

Firefly is a reflective way-finding sticker system which guides firefighters directly to the rooms of vulnerable people. The stickers for your front and back doors act as a signal to firefighters that the Firefly system is in use.
So, how does it work?

Steps 1 and 2
Step 1
Fix one of the square stickers to the outside of your front door in the bottom corner.
Place in line with the handle, ensuring the surface is clean and dry.
Step 2
Do the same on your back door.
The front and back door stickers inform the firefighters that the Firefly system is in use.
Steps 3 and 4
Step 3
Fix a triangular sticker to the outside, bottom corner of the vulnerable person's door. Place in line with the door handle, ensuring the surface is clean and dry. This sticker will guide the firefighters to the vulnerable person's room.
Step 4
Fix a rectangular sticker to the bottom of the door frame on either side of the door, ensuring the surface is clean and dry. This will ensure the system is still effective if the door is left open.

Then what?

The Fire & Rescue Service has trained their firefighters to check the front and back doors on arrival. If a Firefly sticker is in place they will be aware that the Firefly system is in use.  This prompts them to ask any available householders for details of vulnerable people in the building and brief the search team accordingly.  All rooms will still be searched, but valuable time can be saved by starting with a room which has been identified with a Firefly reflective sticker.
